Depressing Life Is…

Three weeks of work has passed and I’m sick of it already. I get so tired by the time I get home from driving and I don’t feel like doing anything nor do I have much time for anything. I can’t imagine doing this for the rest of my life. I’m not complaining about the work, but just the working life in general. Guess it’ll take more time for me to get used to it. Perhaps moving closer to work would alleviate the sorrow of driving, but that I can only consider when I have a permanent job. But is this what I want permanently, what else can I do if not? It’s not like the money helps because it just goes to paying off my debt. I’m also trying to get some exercise in, but I have no energy to do so throughout the work week. On top of all this, relationship problems are bringing me down. I feel like just dropping everything and moving to another country that knows how to enjoy life and not be a slave to work and money. But this would be inconvenient for my movie and video game habits. Oh well.

Easy Breezy

So a week has passed since I started work and everything is easy peasy. It’s not hard work at all. They have automation tools to run tests on so it requires very little brain power. Basically stick in a network card and run some commands and sit and wait. Other tests require more effort such as configuring ip addresses and switches, but any computer savvy person can pick it up. So far I’ve done Dos and Windows testing and should be learning some Linux setups soon.

The company is pretty cool and is huge. The campus covers several large blocks and has more campuses across town. There’s a large cafeteria that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at no more than 4 bucks for a full meal. Unlimited free drinks can also be had. There is also a gym though I haven’t seen it yet. Yeah the place and people are cool but the work is boring. I don’t know if I’d want to do this sort of thing for 20 years but for now it’s good and it beats programming.

Saw The Departed over the weekend and it was great. I liked it better than the original (Infernal Affairs). All the actors were amazing and it’s my favorite Scorsese film in a few years. But what I’m really looking forward to is The 300. Can’t wait for that to come out.

Job Get

I start work today. Finally. It’s only a contract job, and it’s a far drive. I’ll be working at Broadcom for 6 months doing QA on NICs and drivers. It pays $20/hr. Not that great and not the kind of job I intended to get out of a computer science degree. But it’ll pay the bills. I gotta wake up in 5 hours to make the drive down to Irvine. It sounds like an easy job and hopefully I can get later hours.

I recently got a Xbox 360. Just in time because my dad just got a 60″ Sony HDTV. The last couple of weeks have been remodeling the kitchen/living area and custom fitting an entertainment center for the huge TV. I love the TV, I do not care much for the furniture. I’m loving 360 right now. It looks amazing on this TV. I won’t even put it back in my room anymore. My TV sucks. Xbox Achievements are my bane right now. I’m playing the Live Arcade games trying to unlock as many achievements I can. I’m hooked to Geometry Wars and Hexic HD. I also bought Street Fighter II HF, I don’t remember it being this hard. The first non XBLA game I bought was NBA 2k7. It looks amazing. I also started up Gamefly again and rented Test Drive Unlimited. I got a second controller that was defective. The L trigger always sticks. I called Microsoft and they are sending me another. However in the process they asked for my 360’s serial number. So I lifted it to take a look at the back. I had NBA 2k7 still running inside and needless to say the 360 starts chewing on my disc. I didn’t know you weren’t supposed to move the console with a disc inside. In hindsight, I guess it’s just common sense. So my disc got really scratched badly in a circular fashion. Luckily, I had leftover iPod scratch remover polish and tried that and it seemed to work. I can still see the scratch but it’s lighter and the 360 doesn’t complain about reading it.

Gotta get to sleep so I don’t die at work. Gotta support my gaming addiction.
