Fahrenheit

With my free weekend I was able to catch up with some games I haven’t got around to. I just finished a game called Fahrenheit. In the US the game is called Indigo Prophecy. It’s very much like a movie where you make the decisions in the game. The actual game aspect is nothing more than following some Simon-esque button sequences. The heart of it is in the story, and it’s very well done. Scenes have multiple camera angles much like 24. The music is very cinematic and the voice acting is excellent. The story is very captivating and takes itself very seriously. The reason I got the European version (Fahrenheit) rather than the US release (Indigo Prophecy) is because I read it was uncensored. The Euro version contains a couple scenes of sex and a few additional scenes of nudity. I’m sure it was cut out of the US release to avoid the dreaded AO rating. It’s not gratuitous or anything, but I can see how it is a problem. However, it does seem important to the story, so I wonder how the US version deals with it. Anyway, the game is pretty short, completed in less than 10 hours. There is some replay value since you can make different decisions to change the outcome of certain scenes, but in the end there are ultimately 3 different endings that only depend on your final choices. It’s a pretty good experience and I recommend it.

Now I got started with The Movies. A game by Peter Molyneux, creator of Black & White and Fable, it enables you to be in control of your own movie studio. You control everything from hiring crew, staff, actors, screenwriters to designing your studio layout to directing the movies. It’s quite addictive, but I’m a little disappointed that there isn’t more flexibility in the movie creation. I guess for a game it offers a lot, maybe I expected too much. But it’s still a lot of fun.
